Emerging Green Builders Programs
USGBC New York provides many programs, managed by the Emerging Green Builders (EGB) committee, to engage students and young professionals in the green building movement. Through these programs, emerging green builders have opportunities for education, networking and exchanging ideas.
Natural Talent Design Competition. An annual design competition that provides an applied learning experience in the principles of integrated design, sustainability, innovation, and social consciousness; all are components of LEED. Participants compete to be one of five local finalists. The top winner will move on to compete for a national award at Greenbuild. This competition showcases the future talent and leaders of the green building movement.
Projects are selected that could not only benefit the environment, but also enhance local communities by engaging local leaders. Past competitions have included a Nature Center for the South Bronx revitalization and a Performing Arts Center at the site of the 1968 World's Fair site in Flushing Meadow Park, Queens. The 2008 competition will design a mixed-use middle school and community center from the Empire Stores and Tobacco Warehouse and the adjacent Empire Ferry State Park. Career Fair. An opportunity to network, discover green companies, and find a great green career, the biannual EGB Career Fair connects Emerging Green Builders with esteemed New York companies in the architecture, engineering and construction industries. More info.
