Educational Programs

USGBC New York’s educational programs connect you with green building knowledge and practical experience. Regardless of your level of expertise, USGBC New York offers a program to increase your awareness and keep you up-to-date on the latest developments in green building.

UTC Sustainable Cities Dialogue. Sponsored by United Technologies Corp., the Sustainable Cities Dialogue engages some of New York City’s most important institutions and sectors (government, media/cultural organizations, academia, the real estate industry and finance industries) in focused, high-level discussions and presentations on green building.

Oppositions. Beginning quarterly in 2008, Oppositions will assemble key thinkers from around the country to focus on cutting-edge and controversial green design topics. Following each program, USGBC New York will prepare a white paper for its members on the issues covered. More info.

LEED Technical Reviews (Workshops). Bimonthly LEED technical reviews (workshops) that teach the basics of sustainable design, provide an in-depth review of LEED, and prepare individuals to take the exam to become a LEED Accredited Professional. To view our workshop schedule and sign up for workshops, visit the national USGBC web site.

If you don’t see the type of LEED workshop you are looking for, let us know, and we’ll e-mail you as soon as it becomes available. To be put on a waiting list for a workshop that is sold out, please email workshop@usgbc.org.

Green Building Tours. Exciting monthly tours of local green buildings and other sites of substantial interest to the green building industry bring to life the strategies behind green building. Tours include local residential buildings such as The Solaire, commercial interiors like the new Haworth showroom, and other facilities such as the IceStone factory in the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Haworth Master Classes in Sustainable Design. Highly-anticipated quarterly lunchtime presentations, where masters in the field of sustainable design discuss the history of their work to inform and enlighten seasoned green building professionals. Past speakers included Murray Levi, Mahadev Rahman and Richard Datner.

First Wednesdays. Green building practitioners gather for a monthly round-table discussion, to share hands-on experience in green building construction in the New York Metro region. To keep the discussions lively, attendance is generally limited to 40 people.

Green Building Salon. The longest established and best-known green building series in New York. It is managed by the New York State Environmental Business Association, and USGBC New York is a sponsor and actively participates in determining content and securing speakers.
